I'm in Dallas to speak at NANOG, and when I asked people what there was to do in Dallas, the only real consistent answer I got was "go to the grassy knoll".

Oswald stood in that window.

And made that shot.

The view from the grassy knoll.

This man will explain it all if you are confused.

If you haven't seen it already, there's a stabilized version of the Zapruder film that is actually kind of watchable. [warning - graphic violence and actual death of an actual president]

Dallas is an odd city - it has wide roads and more parking lots than it needs. This is bizarre to me. Also, on the weekends there is nobody on the roads. If you needed to film a zombie movie, I recommend the heck out of Dallas: wide roads, desolate, and the weather is pretty predictable. For non-zombie purposes, I think I'd prefer almost anywhere else.

Did you actually go into the repository museum? It's quite nice, as I remember.

I didn't, but perhaps I will later based on your testimony :). I enjoy looking at things like this bemusedly, but the site had such a wierd vibe and I assumed that the museum would be even worse. Too many people who cared too much about this stuff makes for an odd atmosphere.

No, the museum is very legit. They have a small section on "But maybe Oswald didn't shoot Kennedy", but go on to politely suggest that some people have spent a bit too much time watching the X-Files.

Commentary from flickr: "Nobody counts Lee Harvey Oswald's shot as a favorite". Ain't that the truth.

Yep, Dallas loves itself some pavement.

If you needed to film a zombie movie, I recommend the heck out of Dallas: wide roads, desolate, and the weather is pretty predictable.

Also, I suspect that large sections of the Dallas population are, in fact, zombies.

Out of abject curiosity, is the user icon for this post just the results of a Googlke search for "Unfortunately, Peter", or what?

Yes

unfortunately, Ben does most of his thinking with his tuchus

Unfortunately, Ben didn't immediately carry out his promises for mail delivery
to Denver

Unfortunately, Ben doesn't have the ninja-like reflexes of Jackie Chan

Dammit, life would be so much more fun with Jackie Chan's mad ninja skillz.
