My bike broke and I asked for help, and then my dad (who is a total gearhound) said that he was on it, and I stopped searching for answers, content that he would find the right one.
At the same time he reported his findings, he also made a generous offer involving his REI dividend, which was totally compelling when combined with my dividend, and the yearly "20% off one item" coupon that REI sends out. I went and talked to REI about bikes and which one I wanted, and their opinions and his matched up. I asked about using both his dividend and mine at the same time to buy the bike...
.. and everything went awesomely. It should arrive Thursday!
They didn't have any built up on the premises. They ordered it, and there is a no-fault policy if it's not completely to my liking. I'll ride it in a few days and then decide if it's really the right thing. But since it is approximately 1/2 the weight of my previous bike, and is made up of components that are nicer than any I've ever had, I don't anticipate returning it. :)
